About This Spot

Stepping into The Steaming Pitcher, tucked away in a quiet corner of The Hop Exchange, feels like finding a small breath of calm in the heart of London’s relentless buzz. This intimate coffee shop offers a welcome pause, where the pace slows just enough for you to settle in comfortably. Light filters softly through the windows, and the minimalist space invites you to focus on the simple pleasures of a well-made cup and a thoughtfully prepared bite.

There’s a gentle rhythm here, a sense of attentive care that flows from the barista’s hands to your table. Whether you’re unwinding with a smooth cappuccino or warming up with a richly layered mocha, the drinks feel like an invitation rather than a grab-and-go fix. Paired with a toastie or a flaky croissant, the menu offers familiar, humble flavors, each one served with a quiet confidence that speaks to the owners’ passion for quality. It’s the kind of place where even the humble oatmeal raisin cookie feels like a small, comforting moment.

Despite its calm, The Steaming Pitcher is effortlessly connected to its surroundings. Just a short stroll from London Bridge station and Borough Market, it provides a refuge that’s both conveniently close and atmospherically distinct—away from the crowds, yet pulsing with the kind of friendly energy that comes from a local business rooted in the neighborhood. The blend of cozy tables, genuine warmth from the owner, and thoughtful little touches throughout the space make it as suitable for a quick coffee break as it is for a slow, restorative morning.

If you find yourself wandering Southwark Street, this modest nook invites you to linger, to savor the details of a day that’s less hurried, more deliberate. It’s not just about coffee or food here; it’s about those small human moments that make a neighborhood feel like home.

Lovely quiet location inside the Hop Exchange, away from crowds. Only 10 minute walk from London Bridge station so nice for a quick bite. There are 3 or 4 small tables inside, so you can comfortably dine in. The mocha was smooth and creamy! I had the spinach, feta and tomato toastie. It was hot and delicious - perfect for the winter season. Price was reasonable and it cost me £7.55 altogether, considering that other London cafés cost a lot more. It's nice to support locals and would love to go again. The Christmas tree inside is so beautiful

A lovely café serving a really good cappuccino. It's an independent business and the owner who served me is very kind and you can tell the coffee is made with care. There are also some food option such as croissants and sweet treats which look absolutely delicious. It is located in a beautiful building and next to Borough market. You can either take away or dine in as there's plenty of space and it's really calm (which is welcome considering the busy environment!). Definitely recommend getting a coffee and/or a lunch from here!

As others said, great cappuccino and toasties! I went on a Monday morning and it was very pleasant, an escape from the bustling streets of Borough Market. It was perfect to recharge a bit.

Stumbled across this cute little cafe near London Bridge. It’s a breath of fresh air from the chaos of the city with how quaint and minimalist it is. Had a quick and lovely talk with Chen (the owner) and she has had this cafe for 7 years now. I had a cookie and a latte. The oatmeal raisin cookie was delightful and made exactly how I want it. Soft and a little moist. With the latte, it was so creamy and lovely to have on a nice cloudy afternoon.

The Steaming Pitcher is a wee gem of a coffee place! A lovely, diligent woman made the best cappuccino I’ve ever had. The coffee was rich, smooth, and perfectly crafted. Her dedication to her craft truly deserves a shout-out. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service make it a delightful spot.

Lovely coffee served with a smile. The Steaming Pitcher is hidden away in The Hop Exchange but serves wonderful smooth coffee, fresh pastries and breakfast. The independent store is managed by Chin who is lovely and welcoming and cares about her customers. The building is lovely and quiet - ideal for some remote working away from the bustle of Borough market. Highly recommend!

Absolutely the best coffee with steamed milk I had in London!! Small place, limited seats in historical buildings next to Borough Market. I was blown away by how delicious my flat white was! The barista perfectly steamed the milk to it’s velvety texture (not too foamy) and it’s own natural sweet flavor of milk combined with rich intense coffee flavor. The cups come in fair price. Nothing goes wrong here. Very friendly and skillful barista who knows exactly how to brew the amazing cup to delight your day.
